How a Smart Photographer Beat Out a Bunch of Abusive Cops

Accredited Journalist Carlos Miller was arrested while accoutrement the Occupy Miami eviction, afterward orders by Miami-Dade police's Major Nancy Pérez. Then they deleted his footage, which is actionable and may advance to a federal lawsuit.

Fortunately, Miller is smarter than these cops. He recovered the deleted footage from his camera's anamnesis card, allotment of which you can see here.

This includes the barter with Major Pérez. She sounds absolutely contemptuous and atrocious in her barter with Miller, who didn't abide the arrest at all. Actuality is his description of what's accident on that allotment of the video:

At 1:13, she tells me "we don't wish to accept to aching you," even admitting I am assuming no signs of resisting, absolute a barbarous band aural her.

I say, "I am not resisting, you don't accept to be so hard," because they were disturbing the cameras off me and ramming their easily down my pants and into my pockets.

And she makes some able about "a woman getting harder on you."

At 1:26, you will see a Miami badge administrator dressed in dejected video recording the absolute arrest.

They are affairs the band harder adjoin my neck, so I acquaint them they don't accept to asphyxiate me, that they can do all this a little easier.

At 1:39, you can see my appropriate duke continued at my side, assuming no signs of assailment or resistance.

At 1:40, I point out to the arresting admiral and the administrator with the camera that "I am getting cooperative" because I absolutely feared they would use any alibi to exhausted me into submission.

Miller—who runs a blog alleged Photography Is Not a Crime—was the alone columnist who got arrested. Even while he had the aforementioned peaceful attitude as the added photographers, Pérez—who is a "public advice officer"—singled him out. It's not accepted who took the accommodation to annul the footage, which is a federal offense.

Whoever did it, it was the amiss move, and auspiciously ailing executed. Now, Miller is alive to balance the blow of his footage and the badge face a lawsuit.
